"The event was well organised and very well presented, although it would have been nice to make a dish ourselves, we were able to smell and look at all the spices. Very enjoyable night." Coral Harvey - January, 2012
"Wonderful evening, Latasha is full of information and her cooking tips and instructions are easy to follow. The mirror above her cooking area is an excellent idea, as you can easily see all that she is doing. Can't wait to do another course." Tania Chambers - January, 2012
"I love the idea behind Latasha's Kitchen. The business grew out of a complete passion for cooking and sharing recipes. Latasha, the owner, moved to Perth and worked in advertising before she began cooking as an occupation. Coming from Malaysia she couldn't find any food in Perth that she enjoyed, so she would cook recipes she had learned at home, and would share her cooking with friends, family and colleagues, until finally they were tired of getting food for free and demanded she set up a restaurant so they could start paying her! Now she feeds the masses from this lovely little take away and also teaches cooking classes here - both demonstrations and hands on classes - so that others can benefit from her delicious recipes. The menu is out of this world, and the prices are extremely reasonable. I am in love with Latasha's Kitchen - the idea, the food and the prices!" Sorcha M. Western Australia - December, 2011 yelp.com.au
"Latasha's is a fantastic piece of Leederville's eating scene. Latasha's has some of the greatest curries in Perth, with a daily changing menu showcasing delicious ingredients in meat, seafood and vegetarian curries, alongside delicious Biriyani. You cannot help but smell the delicious Indian aromas wafting from the store, and almost always have to go in and find the source. Latasha's also has a range of cooking classes on offer, teaching students how to cook with spices. Each day has a different class, some for Indian cooking, South East Asian cooking and private classes for couples." Leura M. Western Australia - December, 2011 yelp.com.au
"Overall a fantastic experience. Latasha is an amazing cook and went into great detail step by step as she was demonstrating! Her dishes were amazing and enjoyed eating the indian cuisine at the end of the course. Will definately go back for a meal there real soon. " Sabina Varricchio - November, 2011
"Lastaha was extremely nice and showed great knowledge and patience with us. The portions that was eventually served was generous and I had a very enjoyable time. " Alison Tang - October, 2011
"A delightful evening and the host was very accommodating!" Desiree de Souza - September, 2011
"Very enjoyable, great learning experience and very tasty! :)" Fiona Wu - August, 2011
"The food was fabulous tasting. To improve the experience, it would have been nice to have been served some nibbles. Waiting 2 hrs plus to eat is a long time when you having a drink or two. You really need a little something in the stomach." Narelle Leenaars - August, 2011
"Latasha was very knowledgeable with traditional Malaysian spices and cooking techniques. It was a great night out and the food was fantastic." Salina Senihin - August, 2011
"Might be better to have 'hands on' experience rather than just watching. Information given was excellent however and Latasha is a true character." Michelle P. - August, 2011
"Wow, that was quick!! We have just arrived home, (we were the only “foreigners” in your class, as we live SOUTH of the river in Bull Creek) and your email was waiting for me! You are so organized!! Thank you for the Butter Chicken Simmer Sauce recipe, I am looking forward to trying it. Thank you also for a pleasant evening. You and your three lovely assistants did a wonderful job, not only creating five delicious meals, but doing it in such an unhurried and relaxed manner; very impressive! I have always enjoyed cooking, and am delighted to have learned a few new tricks tonight." Pattie Donovan - August, 2011
"A big 'Thank you' for a very informative and enjoyable evening – in every way! All your dishes were absolutely delicious! I only hope I will be able to make them as tasty as you do! Please also thank Philomena and the other girls for their help in making it such an enjoyable evening!" Ros - August, 2011
"Thank you so very much for a great cooking class, both Michelle and I have been discussing it this morning and both enjoyed it very much, the mix of professionalism and friendliness was perfect and the food fantastic, we both learnt a great deal and shall put those lessons into practice very soon." Sue Winter, Automotive Properties Pty Ltd - August, 2011
"Great evening, good food, very informative - loved it." Allen Duffin - July 2011
"A great evening, very informative with instruction plus notes on the dishes to take away. The aroma built up over the 2 hours of demonstration was too much for the hunger pains but the food experience at the end was something to remember for a long time and cannot be found in your average Indian restaurant." Douglas Lloyd - June, 2011
"I just want to thank you for such a great cooking class - it was without doubt the best 'Asian' food chosen as our dishes that we have ever had. We are keen to do more in the future." Gavin Benson, Benson Advertising - June, 2011
"I just wanted to thank you for such a wonderful cookery lesson last week. Both Matt and I loved it and learnt a lot! Hope I can continue to try a master some of recipes." Emma Jenkins - June, 2011
"Not sure if you remember me but I had a big chat to you nearly two years back on my visit home when you'd just started the classes and refurbished the cafe. Since then some of our rellies have done big shops at your place and posted us the proceeds to keep us in the best garam masala and so on :) We're still singing your praises here in Switzerland - and cooking that beautiful red pork fry from the recipe that you kindly provided! Spreading the word and if half of Zurich ever make it to Perth you'll be inundated :) We have mates from the UK, here and all over who would kill to taste it again, based on our attempt to emulate it :). I'm still loving attempts to copy your tangy vege sambar :) I'm back home again in September and if I can persuade my other-half to come we'll visit for a shop (minimum) or be enrolling in one of your courses. I do hope it's still going strong and hope you have the greatest success." Best regards, Caroline - November 2010
"Just to say how much I enjoyed the recent cooking class I did with you. It really was informative and I particularly liked doing it in the restaurant kitchen - very unique! Your staff are also lovely! All the dishes went down well with the family.Hope to do another one soon." All the best, Lynda Guyton - November 2010
| "I attended one of your cooking classes a couple of months back and was very inspired! I absolutely loved the sweet potato dish and is now a favourite amoungst family and friends, Thank you! | "Latasha's is a fantastic experience. can't wait for an excuse to go again!" TR - 2010 |
"Thanks Latasha. We had a great night. I've already had a go at the spicy roast vegetables which were OK (definitely room for improvement - I think I had the wok too high to start with) and the kuay teow which turned out really good, not as good as yours but definitely better than many I've bought. It was worth the class just to learn how to do that. Looking forward to trying the other dishes. I expect you'll see us all back - after I told my brother about the kuay teow he was very keen and I think some of the others are keen for a return visit." Regards Robyn - January2010
"I know we have another 5 weeks to go, but some positive feedback is always welcome!! Tori and I really enjoyed last night – the cooking, the eating and the relaxed friendly atmosphere. Tori’s Mum also enjoyed a quick tasting when we got home and loved each and every one. And, hopefully, we both learned something!! We look forward to next Tuesday and will keep you informed as to what time we can get Tori there by." Many thanks, Simon Lill - 4 November 2009
"Highly recommended! We were looking for a good curry before a movie in Leederville and whilst having a squiz at the menu at Latasha's and seeing the friendly, warm looking woman preparing food behind the kitchen counter, immediately got the vibe that this was going to be a good choice on a budget without going 'cheap'. The weather was wet and cold and there was only one table inside (with another 1 or 2 out the front), so it would not have been an option for us had the table not been free. No doubt they do a good takeaway trade, hence it is called a kitchen and not a restaurant. Nonetheless, if you are lucky to score the table inside, as we were, then you are in for a treat. Inside it is mainly a shop that sells a choice array of spices, condiments, and tasty looking items not seen elsewhere, all with an organic, authentic appeal, and drinks. They had fresh curry leaves, for example, so I know where to get things like that now when a recipe calls for it. Other items included selected kitchenware and cookbooks, giving a clear impression that the person who ran this kitchen was really into their food. Thus we were not disappointed when our food arrived. I ordered a Goat curry, whilst my partner had a chicken & spinach curry, and we started with a chicken pakora entre. The food was visually very appealing, and the depth of flavour and tenderness of the meat meant this was no rushed job in initial preparation even though our wait time was short. The staff were very friendly and chatty, with Latasha herself coming out to answer questions we had about a cookbook. Good sized serves and we left very satisfied and on time for our show, my partner taking what she couldn't finish to go. Hotness and spiceyness are indicated on the wide ranging menu board and the recipes are evidently not watered down for westerners as my 'medium' curry was as hot as I would like it and I generally like a hot curry. I imagine her Beef Vindaloo, rated 'very hot', would be quite an adventure! Authentic cuisine made with passion and dedication. We'll be back!" azman8 - 16 Jul 2008
"Latasha is an excellent cooking instructor. She was both knowledgeable in all aspects of the food we prepared, including where to buy the various ingredients and utensils and the cultural aspects of the dishes. It was an exceptionally enjoyable experience and we'd recommend it highly to anyone interested in cooking." Liesl 5 May, 2009
"We all had a really great day on Friday - really interesting menu, great demonstration (and demonstrator) and knowledge and fantastic eating! I can't wait to find the time to experiment with your recipes!" Dianne 19 May 2009
"Thanks for the instructions, looking forward to cooking the Rogan Josh tomorrow night! We had a great time last night and will definitely come back again soon." Debbie
"Many Thanks Latasha, we thoroughly enjoyed your class tonight and the food was delicious." Nikki & Jessica
"Latasha and delicious food have long been associated in my memory. I used to work with Latasha and sometimes she would bring me one of her home cooked meals for lunch. Her passion for cooking was evident – the ingredients and methods and stories associated with the dish were discussed in depth. I learnt so much and enjoyed so many new taste experiences that I have many happy memories of those times. The family outings to Latasha’s Place impressed on us all Latasha’s attention to detail and her creativity. Everything she does is done with love; grinding spices by hand and thinking up unusual combinations of foodstuffs are a source of pride and intellectual satisfaction to her. She sets high standards for the ingredients she uses and for the flavour and presentation of the dishes. Her customers truly relish the taste sensations she supplies in her quiet friendly manner. Latasha is only too happy to share her secrets and is genuinely interested in your response to a particularly dish, which I wish that I could express is a more eloquent word than Yummmmmm." Anthea Harris, South Perth
"We have enjoyed with no restrictions Latasha's outstanding culinary skills over the past several years. Latasha is arguably the best representation of authentic Indian cuisine in Western Australia. Recently one has witnessed progression of Latasha's horizons into new avenues of traditional indian cuisine with a 'no stones left unturned' approach. End result is the transformation of the cosy conventional eatery into a boutique high end joint. Having recently enjoyed her ' Chettinad Lamb', I was amazed with the prolonged culinary delight and the distinct absence of 'postcurry heart burns' - this in itself is the best evidence of very high standards and quality. For the more adventurous, Latasha's Place offers the added option of not only taking home the secret basic ingredients of Indian palatal delights but also cooking some of the dishes under her tutelage." Rocki Josephin, Mt. Claremont
"Latasha’s is outstanding. Her delicious Indian dishes have made it a real Leederville institution. They’re one the things I miss most while overseas and Perth ex-pats here all rave about them. Amazing food! P.S. Just thought I’d drop you a line to let you know that the Red Pork Fry went fantastically! It was a bit difficult to get pork belly here (they smoke it and use it for bacon mostly it seems) but we managed it! Really pleased with the results." Caroline, Zürich, Switzerland
| "When we get the chance to go to the big smoke we are looking for excitement and good wholesome food. We have been to Latasha’s Place many times and have fallen in love with the warmth and charm of not only Latasha but her flare for making food interesting, tasty and nutritious. With her fresh approach to herbs and spices and her belief in food always being fresh and of the highest quality, we find our trip to Latasha’ s Place from Rural Western Australia always a blissful experience. There is a creative ambiance to Latasha’s Kitchen which is warm and inviting. We always enjoy the distinct flavours to the cuisine and feel elated for our visit." | "Just to let you know how much my family and I enjoy your delicious dishes! We have been regulars at your establishment now for over 3 years and on every occasion the food has been FRESH and DELICIOUS!! We love your new decor which truly compliments your cuisine. Your menu is very comprehensive and reasonably priced. Most important, your boutique restaurant always sparkles with cleanliness. Wishing you every success in your business and thank you for ensuring that we are always welcome in your establishment." Sas Saddick, Masawa Australasia/International Pty Ltd |
"Just want to let you know that my husband and I enjoy your food very much. I am not very much acquainted with spicy food however, your cooking is the best I have had! Mainly the quality of the produce that you use can be tasted all through your food and of course the great cooking skills applied in a such a perfect way. We will have your food any time." Ella Canute, Business Co-ordinator
"Over the past 5 years or so I have been a regular visitor to your Latasha’s Restaurant. On every occasion without exception, the dining experience has been a taste sensation. These days it is quite easy to go and buy a Curry in most suburbs, however when I visit Latasha’s I know that the choice and quality of the cuisine will always be simply fantastic. Good luck with the next stage of your business’s evolution with the introduction of your cooking school and expanded menu. I know you will do well. See you soon." Jeff Coote
